Mommy & Me, from 3 months old

A child spends the first nine months of their development in water, and babies take to it naturally. These classes are the gentle version of coming back to it, with a parent holding them the whole time.

Babies from 3 months · a parent in the water throughout · $132 a month for 4 lessons.

You hold your baby, the coach guides you both

The class is gentle and reassuring, for a baby who is only just getting to know the world. A parent is in the water for all of it, and the coach teaches the two of you together, which is what makes the water feel safe.

It runs in three steps as the child grows: first contact and full support, then comfortable submersion and assisted floating, then the beginnings of independent movement with a parent still an arm away.

What you get

What comes with every session

Babies from 3 months

Most schools open at six months. A baby held in warm water from 3 months old grows up treating it as ordinary.

Water built for small bodies

Babies lose heat far faster than adults. Ours is held at 90°F all year, warm enough that a six-month-old stays relaxed for a whole lesson.

UV-purified

The whole pool passes UV lamps every few hours, so it runs on a fraction of the chemicals a community pool needs, and eyes stay comfortable on the way home.

Straight onto the ladder

Sea Cubs, Tiger Sharks and Blue Whales are the first three of 11 levels, so a child moves into their own class already knowing the pool and the coaches.

Common questions

What people ask before they book

How young can my baby start?

From 3 months old, with a parent in the water for the whole class. Babies start in Sea Cubs, our infant swim class, where they get to know the water through songs, supported floating and calm repetition in a pool held at 90°F. Each class has up to 6 parent-child pairs per coach, and one price covers you both.

Is there an infant swim class?

Yes. Sea Cubs is the infant swim class, for babies from 3 months old until they move up to Tiger Sharks around the first birthday. A parent holds the baby the whole time, and the coach teaches the two of you together: water comfort, first breath awareness, supported floating and moving through the water to songs.

Do you have toddler swim classes?

Yes. Tiger Sharks and Blue Whales carry the mommy and me classes on to age three, with a parent still in the water. Toddlers practice going underwater with support, swimming from the coach to a parent, floating on the back, turning to the wall and climbing out. After Blue Whales, children move up to Starfishes, their first class on their own.

Can a dad or another adult come in the water instead of mom?

Yes. The class is Mommy or Daddy & Me, and what it needs is one adult in the water with each child for the whole lesson: a mom, a dad, a grandparent or another adult your child knows well. The coach teaches whoever is holding the baby, so the holds and the songs go home with you.

Are your baby swim lessons near Miami indoors?

Yes. Mommy & Me runs in our indoor pool in Hallandale Beach, just north of Aventura, and the water is held at 90°F every day of the year. Babies lose heat far faster than adults, so the lesson is as comfortable in January as it is in July.

How long is a Mommy & Me class, and what does it cost?

Each class is 30 minutes, once a week at the same time. A month is 4 lessons for $132, one price for the parent and the child, and a lesson moves to another slot free of charge with 24-hour notice.
