What they learn

What your baby discovers

Your baby meets each of these in your arms, when they are ready for it.

  • Water comfort

Gentle sensory play in warm water, so the pool becomes a familiar, pleasant place.

  • Trust, in your arms

Your baby explores the water held by the person they know best, with your face and your voice close the whole time.

  • First breath awareness

Early breath awareness, and a light sprinkle of water on the face when your baby is ready for it.

  • Supported floating

Front and back floats with your hands beneath them, so your baby feels the water hold them up.

  • Moving through the water

Safe, comfortable movement with you, set to songs and repeated until it feels familiar.

Common questions

What people ask before they book

Does my baby need any swimming experience?

Sea Cubs is where swimming begins, so every baby starts from the same place. A parent or caregiver is in the water for the whole 30-minute class, and the coach guides the two of you together through songs, supported floating and first water play. Babies can join from 3 months old, in a group of up to 6 parent-child pairs.

Do I get in the water too?

Yes. One adult joins each baby in the water for the whole class, and the coach works with you both. You learn how to support your baby in front and back floats, how to move through the water together to the class songs, and when a light sprinkle of water on the face is welcome. One monthly price of $132 covers you and your baby.

How warm is the pool?

Our indoor pool in Hallandale Beach is held at 90°F every day of the year. That is the temperature learn-to-swim programs hold for babies: small bodies lose heat far faster than adults, and water this warm keeps a baby relaxed through a whole lesson. The pool is also UV-purified, so it runs on a fraction of the chemicals a community pool needs.

What should my baby wear?

Your baby needs an approved swim diaper. You need a swimsuit too, since you are in the water for the whole class, and a towel for each of you. We provide the pool equipment, including kickboards and noodles, and the private family changing rooms have hair dryers for afterwards.

Is Sea Cubs a survival swimming class?

Sea Cubs is a gentle first experience of the water for babies, built on songs, eye contact, supported movement and calm repetition. Water-safety skills, like turning back to the wall and floating to rest, build step by step in the levels after it, starting with Tiger Sharks. Close adult supervision stays essential around every pool, bathtub and beach.

When does my baby move to the next level?

Usually around the first birthday, into Tiger Sharks. The coach also looks at how comfortable your baby is in the water, how they join in with the songs and play, and whether they are developmentally ready. Tiger Sharks keeps a parent in the water and adds first underwater swims, back floats and reaching the wall.
